New Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee refused to take any credit for his team's 2-0 win over high-flying Cheltenham at Whaddon Road.

Second-half goals from Chris Zebroski and Eliot Richards ensured McGhee got off to a winning start.

Experienced manager McGhee, who only succeeded Paul Buckle at the Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, said: "I have just said to the players that I have been here two days, so I can't claim any credit. It is about them, how much they wanted to play for each other, their own pride and the supporters.

"The discipline the boys showed to hold their shape was great, which meant they weren't able to pass their way through us in the first half, then we went and got two very good goals in the second.

"There was some great football in the first goal, and a great, great finish. Chris deserved the goal, he worked really hard, so I was very pleased for him. I was delighted with how well we played, but not surprised. I saw enough against Crawley and at training, to think we would do well.

"The back four were very good, especially (Aaron) Downes who was colossal, and the rest fed off him. We must not get carried away, it is only one performance, and now the challenge is to do the same against Bradford next time out."
