Mark McGhee has pledged to win over the Bristol Rovers fans during his time as manager at the Memorial Stadium.

Followers of the Pirates have become somewhat disenchanted with life in the Football League over the past year, with relegation to League Two preceding a dismal start to the new season.

But McGhee got his reign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory at Cheltenham last weekend, and the Scot is keen to get supporters onside as quickly as he can.

"The only people that get you the sack, beyond the players, are the supporters," he said. "The supporters are the guys that count. They give you the approval, the thumbs-up or thumbs-down so the supporters are the most important of everything.

"First and foremost, my first job here is to endear myself to them by showing them that I'm serious about working for their club. Wherever I've been and whatever I've done is irrelevant, I've got to earn my reputation again and I can only do that by being successful here.

"I can't do it by talking about what I've done elsewhere, I have to be successful here. I've got to make sure at the end of the season the Rovers fans are rubbing their hands and licking their lips and saying they're looking forward to next season."
