Fabien Robert and Damien Plessis are signings for the future according to Doncaster boss Dean Saunders, who could struggle to add to his squad.

Robert, cousin of former Newcastle winger Laurent, and former Liverpool midfielder Plessis, both 23, are on loan deals at Rovers until the end of the season.

However, Saunders has hinted the pair will remain at the Keepmoat next season and that is when he expects them to come to the fore.

"Fabien Robert and Damien Plessis need coaching and they need to work out how we play and how physical this league is," Saunders said. "I've got one eye on the future for them. This season and next season.

"They are young lads and the Championship is a tough league to come into. Next season they will be a bit more suited to what we are trying to do."

Doncaster manager Saunders will have to use all of his nous in the transfer market if he is to make further additions to his squad.

Despite the sale of Billy Sharp to Southampton for close to £2million and the exodus of a host of players in January, money remains tight at Rovers, especially after the departures of three directors last month.

And the 47-year-old is ready to wheel and deal with the help of agent Willie MacKay, who has overseen the high-profile arrivals of El-Hadji Diouf, Pascal Chimbonda and Habib Beye, among others, at the Keepmoat Stadium this season.

"With the crowds we are getting we can't compete with the likes of Leicester and Southampton so I have to use all my contacts and all of Willie's to get players in for next to nothing," said Saunders.

"I certainly haven't got any money to spend on a player. We will have to get them in on frees or loans, but I knew that when I came in. You just roll your sleeves up and get on with it."
