Port Vale manager Dean Glover admits Dave Brammer's fitness will come into the equation when the club decide whether to offer him a new deal.
The midfielder has signed a deal from Millwall for the rest of the current campaign, yet he sustained another injury to his knee during last Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Chester.
Although the injury, which is not linked to his previous problems, is not currently causing too much concern for Glover, the Vale boss has revealed the 33-year-old's long-term fitness will be taken into account when they sit down to discuss a new contract in the summer.
Glover told The Sentinel: "I'm not worried about Dave's injury situation because we've only signed him until the end of the season.
"Hopefully we can tie him to a longer-term deal, although we will have to take his injuries into account until the end of the season as we would do with any player.
"We're confident his current knee injury isn't a major problem, though, because he has jarred it rather than caused any structural damage inside the knee."
