Liverpool have signed young French left-back Chris Mavinga from Paris Saint-Germain and tied Nabil El Zhar to a new contract at Anfield.
Reports in France earlier this week claimed Liverpool had offered Mavinga a three-year deal at Anfield and the 18-year-old has now signed on, although the length of deal has not been revealed.
Arsenal were believed to be interested in signing the versatile defender, but Liverpool have won the race to make their second signing of the summer following their capture of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth.
El Zhar, meanwhile has committed himself to the club until 2012.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Reds from St Etienne in 2006, enjoyed his best season to date with Liverpool last term, making 19 appearances in all, and joins the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Yossi Benayoun in agreeing new deals at Anfield.
El Zhar's only goal for the club came in a 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Cardiff in 2007.

"I think Manure united fans have proved why they support manure.we are adding players to our youth team and teamtalk happens to inform us and manure stinkers are already commenting. This shows our fringe signings can be compared to manure's 'super' signings.
Michael Owen -wow-will he last a week?
Valencia-Ecuadorian 'ronaldo'
Obertan-whattttttttt???????!!!!!!!!!!"

"very strange...liverpool is merely just adding players to their youth team and manure fans started pouring their worthless comment here?"

"Liverpool have the right to laugh at the United signings because at the moment we still have all of our best players. United have sold two of their best players and therefore cannot afford to make bad transfers like owen and valencia. I would understand if Liverpool had sold Torres and Kuyt which is the equivalent to what United have done to their team. It will be a two horse race next season and United won't be in it."

"I've played against Mavinga in a pre-season game a couple of years ago and trust me this guy is a special player. Even though Im United through and through this kid will break into the Liverpool side not this season but the next. Good signing!! "

"i think in the past weeks many liverpool fans have been writing and laughing about the signings man u have made... so this young french left back is their answer to owen, valencia and obertan?
But nonetheless, Chris could be a good signing... but like when man u signed evra... he'll probably need a least a season or 2 to get use to the physical play coming over from the french league... "

"this mavinga could be the new ngog. not only is he from PSG, he's also played no professional games (i checked on wikipedia). the sky's the limit"
