Joe Ledley's first-half goal gave Celtic a 1-0 win over Inverness at Parkhead to restore their four-point lead over Rangers at SPL summit.

The Gers cut their Old Firm foes' advantage to a single point with a 4-1 hammering of hosts Dunfermline in the lunchtime fixture, but Celtic responded with a victory of their own a couple of hours later.

Ledley converted a James Forrest cross after 16 minutes from close range to extend the Hoops' domestic winning run to 17 games.

Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic was controversially shown a straight red card by referee Steven McLean on the hour mark before Caley defender Steve Williams was sent off in the 77th minute for picking up a second yellow card for a foul on Georgios Samaras.

At East End Park, Lee McCulloch grabbed his first goal of the season as Rangers fought back from behind to deny Dunfermline their first home victory of the season.

McCulloch played as a striker earlier in his career and delivered the goods after starting up front as Daniel Cousin, set for a return to Ibrox, looked on from the stand.

McCulloch struck after David Healy cancelled out Andy Kirk's shock opener and Sone Aluko and Salim Kerkar then helped themselves to a goal apiece.

Hibernian moved a point clear of rock-bottom Dunfermline with a goalless draw against Aberdeen, but it could have been more for the capital club at Easter Road.

Dons goalkeeper Jason Brown saved well from Isaiah Osbourne after 25 minutes and Hibs had appeals for a penalty turned down midway through the second half after the ball appeared to hit Dons defender Andrew Considine on the arm.

Mitchel Megginson on the left was a useful outlet for Aberdeen and had an effort saved by Hibs goalkeeper Graham Stack, but the Dons were worthy of a point in an entertaining contest.

Elsewhere, a calamitous pair of own goals from St Johnstone and an incredible three goals in the final seven minutes gave Dundee United a stunning 5-1 victory in an action-packed Tayside derby.

Saints dominated much of the first half at McDiarmid Park but found themselves a goal behind at half-time after Steven Anderson had bundled into his own net following a dreadful blunder by Peter Enckelman.

A second own goal on the hour mark, from Callum Davidson, doubled United's lead before Anderson made amends for his unfortunate strike by pulling a goal back.

However, headers from Johnny Russell and Jon Daly ensured the Tannadice side would finish worthy victors.

And Enckelman produced another howler in injury-time as his attempted clearance struck team-mate Dave Mackay to allow substitute Milos Lacny to roll a fifth into the unguarded net.

St Mirren and Motherwell had to settle for a share of the spoils in a feisty but goalless encounter.

The home side had by far the best of the first half and Darren Randolph pulled off a wonderful save to deny Gary Teale after sustained pressure.

However, third-placed Motherwell found their stride after the break and only an incredible stop from St Mirren goalkeeper Craig Samson prevented the visitors from leaving with three points from a bad-tempered clash.

Suso Santana's injury-time equaliser earned Hearts a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock in another feisty game at Rugby Park.

Paul Heffernan bundled home 10 minutes from time to put Killie on course for three points but substitute Santana rose to meet Paul McGowan's cross in the dying stages of the game to ensure a share of the points.

Both sides finished the game with 10 men after Dieter Van Tornhout and Jamie Hammill were both given their marching orders in the second half.
