Neil Lennon will appeal the controversial dismissal of Daniel Majstorovic during Celtic's 1-0 win over Inverness at Parkhead on Saturday.

Joe Ledley converted a James Forrest cross from close range after 16 minutes to extend the Hoops' domestic winning run to 17 games, but most of the drama came after the break.

On the hour mark Majstorovic was shown a straight red card by referee Steven McLean for a 'last man' challenge on Caley midfielder Jonny Hayes, who later admitted that he thought the Sweden international had "got the ball".

The home fans' anger dissipated a little when Inverness defender Steve Williams was sent packing in the 77th minute for picking up the second of two yellow cards for a foul on Georgios Samaras.

However, Lennon was still angry with McLean and his assistants after the match.

"I am going to speak to the club about it and see if there is grounds for appeal," he said.

"I thought he got the ball. How the linesman could give it is beyond me and there were some very inconsistent decisions out there today.

"I think both sets of coaching staff were unhappy with the performance today.

"But I don't think the referee got much help from either of his linesmen.

"We were told that the linesman gave it, whether I am wrong on that I don't know.

"I have seen it on the television and it is pretty inconclusive but it looked to me that Daniel got the ball, you see the way the ball moves.

"It is very debatable decision that has gone against us.

"You (media) have been making a lot of the decisions that have gone for us in the last couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see the reports on that one."

In Lennon's 100th game in charge of the Parkhead club, Celtic extended their domestic winning run to 17 games.

"I am thrilled for the players," he said.

"We had to contend with a lot of things out there today, including the officials so I am delighted with the win and delighted with the clean sheet."

Hayes spoke to Majstorovic on the pitch before the Swede was sent packing.

He said: "I just said to him he was unlucky to be sent off.

"My immediate reaction was to get up and get back in shape. It's hard to tackle without contact.

"I thought he got the ball but I'm not sure what the cameras will show.

"We have had those decisions go against us a few times this season and it's not nice."

Caley boss Terry Butcher thought his side should have made more of their spell of domination after Celtic were down to 10 men.

He said: "I am pleased with my players' performance but very disappointed that we didn't get something from the match.

"I don't think we ever have a better chance of getting something from Celtic Park than today, particularly when Celtic went down to 10 men.

"We didn't capitalise on it and didn't do enough."

Butcher remembered that Caley midfielder Greg Tansey had been sent off earlier in the season for a challenge on Samaras, although there seemed to be little doubt about McLean's decision to give Williams a second yellow for his foul on the Greece striker.

However, Butcher said, not too cryptically perhaps: "My own player has already been booked and he leaves a leg in and Samaras is in the incident which gets one of my players sent off again.

"Maybe it's coincidence. I am not blaming him (Samaras), I am just saying he was involved in the incident."
